What did you do?
What could you improve?
This year at enrich I have done interactions, talent development : mosaics and dragon art. We also did workshops and independent tasks. My favourite workshop was debating and my favourite independent task is scamper.

What factors contributed to your learning?
What challenged you?
The thing that challenged me the most was learning what to do on the computers and the ipads, it was a bit hard because you had to remember how to take screen shots, use keynote, use cameras and dinoscopes and send emails.
Make connections
pastedGraphic_2.pdf
What did you learn to do better?
What sort of thinking helped you?
I learnt to use many different types of art like sketching, lino prints, painting and making sculptures. I have also improved on using different applications on the computer.
Make judgements

My progress was...
My progress would be on art because now I know a lot of different types and techniques of art and I’m a lot better at chess as well.

Two stars and a wish.

This term at Enrich two stars would have to be Art passion projects and getting to used the
I pads. I chose art because it was really fun doing different kinds of art like painting sketching and lino prints. I chose the I pads because there really easy to use and  you can use different applications like chess, mind mapping and even frog dissection! One wish for next term would have to be more challenges in between work.

Science Experiment.

Last week at Enrich we were doing a Science experiment about what will happen to a potato when you put it into different liquids. The four different liquids were coke, rare, water and salt water.
My hypothesis is the coke will make it fade and make it smooth, the raro will make the potato rough, the water will make it expand and make it smooth and the salt water will make the potato smooth because salt is like a mineral.
RESULTS: Salt was the smoothest potato. Juice was smooth. The water made the potato smooth. The coke made it smooth and rubbery.

Art passion project

This term I've been doing art for Passion project. So far I've made a skeleton for a dragon, a paper mache dragon and 2 sketches. one of the sketch is a Knotwork dragon which didn't turn out that well.a few weeks ago we went to see Henry and the other tuataras. Next week I'm going to paint my paper mache and finish my skeleton. Then I'll start a lino print and do some more sketches. We only have about 17 hours left to finish our art and then it will be next term.A positive is that it's really fun and it uses your prior knowledge to make artwork.A negative is

Teacher comment

Emma that dragon looks really funky, and the wire inside has made it a lot more rigid which will be good for support as you apply the paper mache skin and paint it.
I can't wait to see what colours you use and how it turns out.
Keep up the good work!

S.C.A.M.P.E.R

Every fortnight at Enrich we do a task called S.C.A.M.P.E.R. scamper stands for substitute, combine, adapt,
modify / magnify, put to other uses, eliminate and
reverse / rearrange. What you do for scamper is you get an everyday item like a shoe or a brush and you use your imagination to make it substitute, combine, adapt, modify / magnify, put to other uses, eliminate or reverse / rearrange
an object. I did a brush and used it as a car wash, a bridge, a really colorful car, a wacky sculpture, a slide, a polisher and a scooter. We do this to make us think about things in a different way and to use our imagination

Passion progects. Art

This term we are doing talent development and we had to pick out of art, creative writing and filming a documentary. I chose art and we are making dragons.

To make our dragon art we are going to do lino printing, sketching and make clay models. We have to create our own dragons and make them into art.

We only have 37 hours from this week to start from scratch to finish the dragons completely.
Next year some of the dragons are going to be put into an art gallery and are going to be sold.

Teacher Comment

Emma.
Your creative side showed through during our mosaic projects.  I liked the fact that you took your time until you were happy with the end product.  You experimented with lines, colours and shape, which were the main components to completing a mosaic.  You stay on task and use what Enrich has to offer to your advantage.  You are developing in confidence and you are eager to help others when needed.  You are beginning to voice your opinion more, which is great to see.  Keep this up for next term Emma.

Today's Game

Todays game was Indian Chairs.  The aim of the game is to get all the other people out by tagging them. First you split everyone into two groups. Then one group lines up and the other team kneels down in a line, one person would face one side and the next person would face the opposite side. The same thing would happen till the end of the line. One person from the group that kneels down is the tagger. The other team has to run away from the tagger. The person being chased can jump through the line, the tagger cannot.  The tagger can tap someone who is facing the way of the runner and then they're the tagger. The old tagger then kneels down in that spot.

Happy feet

Happy Feet
Emperor Penguin
Today our current events was about Happy feet.  Happy Feet is a penguin that washed up on Peka Peka beach on the Kapiti Coast a week ago.Happy Feet is an emperor penguin and is 4000 kilometers away from home, Happy Feet has had lots of surgery to get sticks, stones, fish and sand out of his stomach.
Doctors made the penguin a tiny area which is made out of party ice.Now Happy Feet is resting in Wellington Zoo. After all of Happy Feet's surgery they are going to ship him to Antarctica or let him out in Foveaux Strait. I don't think they should do any of these .  If they were going to ship him to Antarctica I think it would be to risky and if they put him in Foveaux Strait he might swallow fish, sand, rocks and sticks again.

Art Talent Development

A few weeks ago  for talent development I started to make a small mosaic for me to take home.
I am doing mine as a shell that looks like this:
First we drew a simple object on a paving tile. Then we smash the other tiles then see if they fit onto our shape that we drew onto  our tile.Next we glued all of the tiles with a special glue and 2 weeks ago I started the background and this week I finished my back ground off. Next week I'll start grouting which is a using a special type of glue to fill the gaps with.

Chess

The main idea of chess is to kill the king by using your players.
In chess there is 32 pieces all together (16 white and 16 black) which are made up of 1 king,1 queen, 2 bishops, 2 rooks, 2 knights and 8 pawns.  Your opponent's king is the player that you try to kill.  The king can move 1 square at a time.  A queen can move 1-7 squares at a time in any direction.  My favourite chess piece is the queen.  A bishop can move 1-7 spaces diagonally only.  A knight can move  in a L shape (1 sideways and 2 up or down).  Rooks can move 1-7 spaces but is only allowed to go straight.  A pawn can move 1 space foward and thats about it! There is a very cool video about a chess game.  You can search it on YouTube "Claymation Chess."

Othello

Othello is a board game that we got last week as a gift from Sarah when she left at the end of Term 1.

The aim of Othello is to get the board covered in the colour you are - either black or white.

First choose a colour.  White goes first. You place 2 counters each in the very middle of the board.  White must put one of his / her counters beside the black counter.  You have to trap the other players counter. Here is an example
            0 0 0
Once you've trapped them by having your counter at the beginning and end of the line, you can turn the counters in-between into your colour.  Keep playing until you've filled up the board or if you can't move.  When you fill up the board it's whoever has the most counters wins.

Happy playing!

Talent development

Next term we are doing passion projects. Before we do passion projects we have to do talent development.  Talent development is learning more about our talents.  First we chose what we will do out of  ICT, Science or Art. I decided to do art.   For art we are studying mosaics.  A mosaic is a picture or thing made out of smashed up tiles, plates or cones.

This artist decided to mosaic a garden bench.

The artist of this picture has
decided to make a mosaic of cat.
The science group is doing nature science and the ICT group is working on applications like Scratch and Alice.

Tessellations

Last week I did a workshop with Darryn and we were learning about tessellations.
 It can be cats
Tessellations are pictures that fit together like this :
it can be fish and birds.
It can be anything as long as it fits together.                               The tessellation I made was   I made a cat.
I had to remember, no gaps and no overlaps.

bullying

Today Sarah did a work shop for bullying.
We had to write down two to four ideas on what to do if you or someone else gets bullied.
I think if you see someone getting bullied or picked on you should go and help them out.
Once we had writen down the ideas we had to sort them out in which group they would go into. pink : caring, orange : emergencies. brown :figuring it out and others too. The shoes are called action shoes and they were created by Edward De Bono. Each shoe has a colour and an action to go with it which is how we sorted our thinking.

Today's Game

Every day at enrich at 9:10 a.m we have a cooperative game. Today Katie and Alex are organizing the game. We played terminator/ maths tag. Terminator is where there are 1-3 people who call out questions. The rest of the kids/players find a space to stand around the room. If you know the answer to the question you put your hands up, if you get it right you take a step and try to tag someone. If you get it wrong you sit down and you're out. If someone tags you you're out and have to sit down. The winner is the last one standing. I thought the game was pretty cool although I did get poked in the eye when I was tagged.

Internet searching

Today I was doing Internet searching on google. We had to search up nzcity.co.nz and we learnt that you can use keywords, speech marks,k-12 and how to change it from images to searching google and google maps. I learnt how adding things onto your search can make the search page change and that adding and deleting things can make there be more results or less results.I also learnt that k-12 means 5 years old to year thirteens.

Interactions

We are learning about Interactions as part of our Concept Curriculum here at Enrich.

At the beginning of Enrich this year we were told to make a video about what we know about interactions.

I didnt know anything about interactions. Heres a video I made for what I knew about interactions.

Now I know that interactions are 2 or more things working together. Heres a video of what I know now.
